nineteen weeks - june 22, 2008

It has been a busy and eventful week! We visited friends, connected with other new moms, did a five mile walk, and had a nice bbq. But the biggest event of the week is Kate slept in her crib at night all week! It was a hard transition for me... I was hoping to be able to keep her in the bassinet until July but she had started to out grow it. Kate did fairly well with the transition... she has woken up more during the night but has been easy sooth back to sleep (well, most of the time.) I miss falling asleep every night watching her peacefully sleep... it was such a nice closure to the day and a wonderful reminder that all the moments are truly worth it. As our journey continues I am sure I will find new ways to end our days and celebrate all the tiny moments. For now I am just holding her a little longer before I lay her down and linger over her crib to watch her peacefully drift off to sleep.

father's day - eighteen weeks - june 15, 2008

Eric has been a very hands on dad from the moment we found I was pregnant. He was so excited to become a daddy... it was something he patiently waited for. He is completely in love with Kate! She already has him wrapped around his little finger! The picture below is a "silly" picture... he does not shy away from anything. Often times he wants to be the one who tries out the new thing first. It has been a blessing to have his help, love, and support as we face the challenges and miracles of parenthood!

kate tries water in a cup - june 14, 2008

With the doctor's approval we gave Kate some water in a "sippy" cup. She got super excited when she saw the cup and was very eager to give it a try. After several attempts she was able to get a couple sips of water! I have a feeling she would have drank all the water if we would have let her (I did not measure how much water I put in the cup so we did not let her try beyond a couple of sips.) Next time I'll be sure to measure out an ounce or two of water... we can't wait to see what she will do!

kate's first playdate - june 12, 2008

Kate and Emily have "met" a few times before but this is the first time they "played" together. It was so much fun to watch the girls interact with each other.

kate's first ride in the BOB (baby jogger) - june 11, 2008

I got the BOB as a birthday present (funny how once you have a baby the gifts you desire change.) I could not wait to put Kate in it and hit the pavement! She was way too small at first but now she finally fits!! Her first trip was to the park with the dogs. Eric and I fought over who was going to push her... we compromised... he got to push her to the park and I got to push her the rest of the time. It was such a comfy ride she feel asleep! I can't wait to see were the BOB will take us next!

four months - june 10, 2008

Kate is four months old! I can't believe it... it has gone by so fast! She had her third Well Baby Check Up. She weighed 10 pounds 10 ounces and is 23 1/4 inches long. Such a peanut! She had her second round of shots. She was not too happy with the situation... it took us a while to calm her down.
She seems to be right on track... she "talks" all the time, can hold her head up pretty well, and sits up with support.
It has been so much fun watching her grow and develop... we can't wait to see what she will do next!

seventeen weeks - june 8, 2008

a day of firsts - june 3, 2008

Today was a day of many firsts...
  1. It was my first day of summer break. I can't recall a time when I was more excited to begin summer break (I am sure my mom can think of some.) I am looking forward to enjoying the lazy days of summer and being a full time mom.
  2. It was Kate's first trip to the doctors due to an illness. On Monday Kate woke up with goop in her eye... as the day progressed her eye got worse. The doctor's office thought it might be Pink Eye but they wanted her to come in just to double check. Well they were right... Kate had Pink Eye. We have to give her two drops in each eye four times a day for about five days.
  3. Kate rolled over for the first time! Kate rolled from her tummy to her back. It was so exciting to watch! The best part was both Eric and I got to watch this milestone together. I have posted some pictures below of Kate demonstrating her new skill.

sixteen weeks - june 1, 2008

first swing ride - may 30, 2008

We have been taking Kate to the park since she was very young. We typically just walk around the lake with the dogs. We thought we would try the "big" swing. She really seemed to enjoy it!

class visit - may 27, 2008

From the moment my class found out I was pregnant they wanted to know when I would bring in the baby to visit. Once I returned to work they would ask about Kate on an almost daily basis. They loved to watch her photos on my screen saver as much as I loved to. I surprised them with her visit on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. They loved every minute of her 15 minute visit. Kate loved the visit too! I thought she might get overwhelmed with 21 faces staring at her but she just watched and smiled at all of them.

fifteen weeks - may 25, 2008

mother's day - thirteen weeks - may 11, 2008

I feel truly blessed to have Kate in my life. She is my angel! I believe it has been my ultimate calling to be a mom... it is the best and most rewarding (and hardest too) thing I have ever done! I am looking forward to every moment in Kate's life (I am a little scared when Kate turns 12 but hopefully with a lot of hard work it won't be as scary as it could be!)
My first mother's day was calm and relaxing! It was a quiet Sunday with just Kate and I... it fondly reminded me of the days of my maternity leave.
Thank you to all of those who sent me first mother's day blessings and wishes! They were all greatly appreciated and enjoyed!

mommy's little helper

Is Kate destined to be a teacher? (Primary Teachers note the pile of Dibels books to the left.) I have spent many Sunday afternoons attempting to do school work with Kate on my lap "helping" me.

puppy love

Kate and the dogs get along so well. Eric and I had some fears about how the dogs would adjust to a new little one in the house. When we first brought Kate home Riley was so excited to see her I thought she was going to climb into the crib with her... thankfully Riley calmed down and has remained pretty mellow. Odin loves to give Kate kisses on the head. The first time he gave her a kiss I was holding her on the bed... he quick jumped up, gave her a kiss, then took off. I think he was afraid that he might get in trouble. Kate also loves to watch the dogs. I think she would watch them all day if they stayed in her line of view. It melts my heart to see them embrace each other with the same amount of love as we have.

nine weeks - april 13, 2008

two months - april 10, 2008

Kate had her second Well Baby Checkup. She weighed 9 pounds 8 ounces and was 21.25 inches long. She did pretty well with her first round of shots... she did the "no breathe scream" and ran a slight fever the next day.
It has been such a joy to watch her grow and develop. It is amazing how fast it goes!

eight weeks - april 6, 2008

seven weeks - march 30, 2008

I returned to work when Kate was seven weeks old. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. The first week was the hardest but it got a little easier with time. It has yet to become easy and I am not sure it ever will.

kate's first outing - february 28, 2008

We took Kate to the Butterfly Pavilion for her first "official" outing. She slept through our walk through the Pavilion and woke up when we entered the gift shop. Since then she has been to the aquarium, REI, Boulder, and all types of errands with us. Our next big adventure is the Zoo.

kate's first story - february 26, 2008

I was determined to have read Kate her first book within the first twenty-four hours of her live (the idealistic teacher in me)... then reality set in! We did finally read to her when she was sixteen days old. I read On The Night You Were Born and Eric read The Cat in The Hat. She loves being read to! A sense of calmness and wonderment overcomes her!

week two - february 24, 2008

Kate had her first Well Baby Checkup. She weighed 6 pounds 6 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. No shots at this visit but she did have to have her heel pricked.

kate's first bath - february 19, 2008

We finally gave Kate her first bath nine days after her birth. It was not an enjoyable experience for her. She still dislikes baths but no longer screams through them. She gives me this look that says I don't really like this but I am going to be brave. We are being hopeful that as she grows she will like them more and more.

baby kate has arrived!

Welcome to the world Kate! After a speedy labor and delivery (it was ten hours total!) Kate blessed our lives on Sunday, February 10th at 1:15 am. She weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces and was 19 inches long. We feel completely blessed and overjoyed with her arrival. She is an easy going and mellow baby girl. We are looking forward to enjoying each moment in her precious life!

Sunday, June 1, 2008

Kate is our feisty, full of life, 3 year old. She keeps us on our toes and guessing what typeof trouble she is going to find next. She is sweet, innocent, compassionate, strong willed, and an early riser. One minute she is loving on her babies and the next minute she is collecting rocks and kicking a soccer ball. Curious George is her trusty sidekick and you can always find a blankie close by. We are beyond blessed to have her in our life.

Fate stepped in and dropped Eric at my doorstep, literally. We met at our apartment complex over six years ago. Eric is an amazing father, wonderful husband, and loyal friend. I am beyond lucky to be able to share my daily adventures and life with him.
