our little hawkeye - august 30, 2008

I could not wait to get Kate in an Iowa outfit! Isn't she the cutest Iowa Hawkeye you ever saw? I believe so! I continue to tease Eric that I only breed Hawkeyes. Only time will tell if that is true. For now I will enjoy dressing her for game day and hope she will bring good luck and fortune to my beloved Iowa Hawkeyes.
Go Hawks!

twenty-nine weeks - august 31, 2008

Kate is teething!
Her first bottom tooth has popped through and the other is on the way!
I had braced myself for a cranky, unhappy, baby. I had the Tylenol ready and was prepared for some sleepless nights. But amazingly Kate did not seem to be too bothered by the process of cutting teeth. She even started sleeping through the night!
Eric and I are SO thankful that Kate has eased us into parenthood and has continued to be such a sweet, easy going, girl.
The pictures above are Kate playing in a box. She had the best time sitting in the box and moving the flaps up and down. She even cried when we took her out! Don't you love how the simplest things bring a child endless entertainment?

twenty-eight weeks - august 24, 2008

twenty-seven weeks - august 17, 2008

Kate is sitting up now!
She is doing a pretty good job at keeping her balance for longer periods of time. She loves being able to sit up, play with her toys, and watch what is going on around her.
Kate is also trying new solid foods!
We gave her some yummy organic bananas. I thought for sure she would love the sweet taste but she gagged after her first bite and made such a face. Eric and I got quite a kick out of it (sorry, Kate.) I have continued to offer the bananas to her... she will eat them but not without a little face or noise to let me know that these are not her most favorite thing in the world.

six months - twenty six weeks - august 10, 2008

Kate is six months old! The time continues to go by so quickly! Kate had her fourth Well Baby check up this month. She weighed 12 pounds 12 ounces and was 25 inches long. Kate also had her third round of immunizations. She was not too happy with the situation but who can blame her. Kate continues to be a happy easy going baby who loves being around people and her puppies!

kate's first day of school (a.k.a. daycare) - august 4, 2008

Kate's first day of daycare was a bittersweet day. Kate did a great job... she made new friends, took a nap, and had a bottle. She did not cry and seemed to be enjoying her new environment. I, on the other hand, was a mess. I had thought my years of experience in daycare centers would help put my mind at ease and keep my emotions in check. I guess the bond between a mother and daughter is stronger than years of experience and knowledge. I was sick to my stomach, had a horrible headache, and was fighting the tears as I walked into the center (I had actually been fighting tears for weeks... every time I thought about it I would get teary eyed.) And of course I cried for about an hour after I had left the center. Needless to say I was so thrilled to pick her up four hours later... I felt I could not get there fast enough! Both Eric and I were so relieved and thankful that her first day was a success... that's when logic kicked back in and we knew we made a great choice in childcare for Kate.

twenty-five weeks - august 3, 2008

Oh the lazy days of summer! We have had a record 23 days straight of 90 degree plus weather! We have spent many afternoons playing in the Sun Room (a.k.a. Kate's playroom)... it is the coolest room in the house thanks to wall AC Unit. On Saturday, Kate and I enjoyed a "picnic" lunch. Thankfully Kate has continued not to mind the heat... as you can tell she is quite a happy little girl hanging out in just her diaper! Kate has continued to LOVE her rice cereal! She also loves playing with the spoon and bowl. We can't wait to introduce other new foods to her... I think bananas will be next!
