sunglasses - day 2 - june 27, 2009

Wearing her sunglasses while running errands.
Isn't she the cutest?

sunglasses - day 1 - june 26, 2009

I think babes in sunglasses is the cutest.
My babe had no interest in wearing sunglasses.
She would willing try them on...
for about 20 seconds.
Then the other day she wanted to wear my sunglasses. I did not want her to wear my sunglasses (no fun, I know) but I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to encourage her to wear her own.
It worked!
She had fun wearing her sunglasses around the house all afternoon.
Maybe I should try this same method with hair accessories...
I'd look pretty funny with pink barrettes randomly stuck in my hair.

stamping it up - june 25, 2009

Kate loves to stamp with her TaDoodles Stampers.
She loves to stamp them on paper, the table, the chair, and even herself.
And what's a little arts and crafts time without eating a crayon...
or two.
(I personally believe she tries to eat crayons because she knows she is not supposed to and it gets a reaction out of me.)

four years ago - june 24, 2009

Four years ago today Eric and I said our vows and made our commitment to each other in front of our friends and family.
It seems like it was just yesterday.
I still remember some of the very tiny details of the day.
I love these (individual) pictures of Eric and I. They seem to capture our happiness and excitement of the day, the moment, and what laid ahead.
I have these two pictures framed and sitting on a table that we see every time we leave and every time we come home. It reminds us of the day, the happiness, the anticipation, the excitement. (Just in case we might forget.) I hope to always remember this day as if it was yesterday. I hope we continue to go through our days with same amount (if not more) of excitement and happiness as we did four years ago. May we build our dreams together, while allowing each other to grow with their dreams; to support each other through times of happiness; to treat each other with respect, love, and loyalty through all the trials and triumphs of our lives together; and to give each other all the love we can give our whole life long. Our commitment is made in love, kept in faith, lived in hope, and eternally made new.

oh the faces - june 23, 2009

Kate makes some of the funniest faces.
I love her little faces!
I happened to catch this face on "film" today.
She looks mad but she was trying really hard to turn her body in her chair.
She was probably also thinking "oh mom, just put the camera down and play with me!"
And after that I did!

water table fun - june 22, 2009

Kate's sand table was becoming a big mess. All she liked to do was pick up sand and throw it on the ground or at things. I was tired of cleaning up sand and telling her the sand needed to stay in the sand table. So I decided to dump out the sand, clean up the table, and switch it over to a water table.
She LOVES her water table!
She enjoys splashing, pouring, and playing in the water!
Most of the water stays in the table and whatever gets on the floor dries pretty quickly.
Summertime bliss (for everyone!)

remembering the good moments - june 20, 2009

When my school was introduced to the PBS (Positive Behavior Supports) System our mentor showed us a picture of her children that sits on her desk at work. Her children are neatly dressed for an Easter celebration, they both have smiles on their faces, and look rather charming. Our mentor told us she keeps that picture on her desk to remember the good moments... not the "I am going to pull my hair out" moments.
The picture above is a good moment.
The last couple of days have been challenging.
Kate has always been a good baby. We could take her anywhere and she would be happy to go along for the ride. Half the time she would hardly make a peep. We would have to coax her to smile or say hello to a kind stranger.
Boy oh boy has that changed this week.
She has had a fit EVERYWHERE we have taken her since Tuesday. She has had a fit at a restaurant (or two), at the library, at the outdoor mall. And she has had countless fits at home.
I start to wonder is she entering the terrible twos? Is something bothering her? Is she sick? Could it be her teeth?
What is going on?!? What am I doing wrong?!? How can I stop this?!?
I have not found any answers.
But I am remembering (and focusing on) the good moments!
And just in case I need one more picture...

kate's a dipper - june 18, 2009

Kate has a new love in the food world...
Kate loves to dip her food. She will dip her food into ketchup, ranch dressing, or applesauce. She will dip any kind and all kinds of food into these things.
Of course anything tastes better when it's dipped!

civilized eating - june 12 & june 13

Kate is becoming a civilized eater. Now I am able to put her food in a bowl or plate and she will begin her meal by eating from it. Sometimes she will even use a spoon or fork! I have found it fun to prepare her meals on a plate and proudly present them to her. Of course her food does not always stay in the bowl or on the plate…

pretty things - june 12, 2009

I've styled Kate's curls, put in pigtails, and tried barrettes.
Her curls are a mess an hour later.
I am lucky if she leaves in her pigtails for longer than an hour.
And I was even luckier to take this picture before she quickly pulled out her barrette.
How I wish she would leave all these pretty things alone.
Oh well.
At least I've tried and I have my photos as proof.
Some day, maybe some day, we'll make through a whole day with our pretty things still looking beautiful. (Well, sort of beautiful, she is a toddler after all!)

half-hour of fun - june 11, 2009

Who would have thought that an empty Coke can could provide so much entertainment?!?
For a half-hour (or longer) yesterday morning Kate happily played with this empty (and washed out) Coke can.
She carried it from room to room, pretended to drink out of it, and sat it on coasters.
The next time boredom sets in I am going to break out an empty Coke can and let the fun begin all over again!

sixteen months old - june 10, 2009

It's hard to believe Kate is sixteen months old!
I recall a year ago...
Kate was four months old and we were so excited that she rolled over for the first time. The smallest things were the biggest things.
Fast forward a year...
It's hard to keep up with the small things.
Kate's mind seems to be exploding with new learning, ideas, thoughts, and words!
In just the past couple of days she has began to say Please and Thank You!
She has also started to run (not full speed (yet!)) She loves to run around the outside of her play yard and have the dogs "chase" her.
Our days are full of laughter, giggles, singing, and pure joy!
I would have never imagined this a year ago...
but I am loving every minute of it!

fun times with office supplies - june 8, 2009

I have a few drawers full of office supplies (pens, pencils, crayons, etc.) that Kate loves to play with. She enjoys taking the supplies out and putting them back. She likes to dump the color pencils out of the box and then try to put them back in. She will do this for long stretches at a time... and if it makes her happy I am not going to stop her!
Tonight she found a box of reinforcers. She enjoyed pulling them out of the box and then pulling the tape of reinforcers around the house. When the tape got too long or she wanted it all back in the box (so she could pull them out again) she would seek out my help.
It is so neat to see such a simple thing provide her such great entertainment.

a naughty little one - june 7, 2009

For those who think Kate could never be naughty...
Here is proof of how naughty she can be!
Kate knows she is supposed to sit in the swing. She knows what she is doing is dangerous. She gives us her "I am being a naughty little girl" grin every time she does this.
I hope she outgrows this stage QUICKLY!

the zoo - june 6, 2009

We are members of the zoo.
We love going to the zoo.
We took Kate to the zoo several times last year. We would point at the animals, talk to her about them, and wonder if she had any clue about what we were looking at and talking about.
When we went to the zoo this time we knew she knew there were animals to look at and learn about.
Her favorite animals were the monkeys and birds.
I think she would have spent all afternoon watching the flamingos and geese.
I can't wait to go back!

another day, another park - june 5, 2009

Kate enjoys the park.
We enjoy taking her to all the different parks in our area.
She loves to walk around and people watch.
She also enjoys playing on the equipment but prefers to play in the rocks or sand.
I am looking forward to spending many summer afternoons at the park!
