a better day

Kate was feeling MUCH better today so we decided to go explore a small local town.  We enjoyed checking out some local shops and a cup of ice cream.

Kate also reminded me she is growing up and wants to be more independent.  She asked me (more like told me) if she could walk instead of ride in her stroller. I decided to give it a try.  She did a great job! She stayed by my side, held my hand when crossing the street, and did a wonderful job of looking (not touching) in a few little shops.  She was so proud to be a "big girl!"

life changing

Today was life changing...

Today Kate's wonderful pediatrician determined "Kate's recurrent episodes of coughing and wheezing represent asthma." Kate now has two inhalers... one for daily use and one for when she needs "quick relief."

I am glad for answers and a solution to all of Kate's little issues but I am left with lots of questions. Will this be life long? Will she out grow it? Will I truly know when she needs a "quick relief"? Will I give her "relief" more than when she really needs it? Will I/should I always carry her "relief" inhaler with me at all times? Will she ever take her medicine like this sweet little toddler does?

Lots more questions than answers at the moment. I am hoping with  time the answers come...

don't you worry

For those of you who thought Kate's curls would disappear with her short new do...
don't you worry...

They are still there...

a ballerina in the making

Kate's ballet shoes arrived!

She was so excited to wear them and did even think about taking them off when it was time for bed.  Her first ballet class is a week and a half away.  I simply can't wait.  In the meantime I am beginning to wonder if sleeping in your ballet slippers will make you a better ballerina....
We will have to check with Kate's auntie for answer on that...

a little bit of punk rock

Kate got her first tattoo today!

(don't worry it's 100% temporary)
It's a little on the punk rock side of things.

You've got to love a girl with an edgy side!

I have always loved summer.

As a child there was no school.  I could play all day.  I got to celebrate by birthday.  As a teen I enjoyed babysitting, spending the evening with my friends, having fun, and no homework.  As a young adult life seemed to slow down during the summer.  Life was calm and carefree. Nothing compared to an Iowa City summer night.  I was working to have fun.  As an adult I love that my career allows me to fully enjoy summer. It is different now but most days I wouldn't trade for the world.

But I wouldn't mind an Iowa City summer night every now and again!
