inspiration workshop :: week 8 :: my inspiration

It is week eight of Gussy Sews inspiration workshop!  This week's prompt is MY INSPIRATION.

I find inspiration in lots of places and people.  Lately one of my favorite places to find inspiration is Pinterest.

Pinterest is amazing and full of inspiration.  I have found inspiration and ideas for Kate, outfits to wear, ways to decorate my home, ideas for photographs, ideas for my classroom and education, yummy food to try, powerful quotes, and so on and so on.  Pinterest is truly full of endless inspiration and ideas.

Not only do I love to find new ideas and inspiration for myself I also enjoy looking at what inspires others.  You can really get to know a person's tastes by the ideas they "pin" onto their boards.  It is so much fun (and a great waste of time!)

Eleven years ago today I moved to Colorado.

In the past eleven years I have...
  • Made some amazing friends.
  • Explored amazing, breath-taking, places.
  • Met and married my husband.
  • Completed my master's degree.
  • Reconnected with old friends.
  • Gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
  • Said good-bye to some dear friends.
  • Experienced loss and heartache.
  • Moved three times.
  • Always taught at the same school.
  • Never been to the Western Slope.
  • Tried to master snowboarding.
  • Stayed in touch with the one and only person I knew when I moved here.
  • And so much more.
When I moved to Colorado I was a young 23 year old ready to take on the world.  I still remember the first day, weeks, months as I adjusted to my new home.  I have come a long way since then.  Lots of growth.  Lots of learning.  I am proud of myself for making it, taking the risk, walking the path less followed.

This journey has been amazing and I am looking forward to the next step in this adventure.

Eleven years... WOW...

InstaFriday :: week two

Today I am participating in InstaFriday!
InstaFriday was created by Jeannett at Life Rearranged.
The idea behind InstaFriday is to share photographs you took (and edited) with your cell phone.

Here are some moments of everyday life I have captured this week...

A mini Red Velvet cupcake from Tee & Cakes.

The last day of swimming lessons.
Kate was a little unsure of the life jacket.

Our shadows at the park.

A perfect way to start the day!

Starting to plan for the 2011-2012 school year.

What every day moments of life have you captured recently?

purple blankie

Kate loves her purple blankie.

It tends to go every where she goes.  School, hiking, swimming lessons, restaurants, shopping...
(If you look carefully I am sure you can find it in a few pictures throughout this blog.)

Last Friday I did not think twice about grabbing purple blankie and bringing it along with us.
Oh but I should have...

Kate and I had a fun morning in Boulder.  We did a little shopping, people watched, ate some lunch, and stopped for cupcakes.

When we got back to the car, Kate asked, "Where's purple blankie?"

I frantically looked through the car, my purse, and the one bag we had.
No purple blankie.

I decided that Kate must have left it behind at the first store we stopped at.  She was busy playing and I simply thought it got left behind.

Next we checked where we ate our lunch.  Nope.

We both fought back the tears as I tried to console her on a street corner in Boulder.
I prayed and hoped one of the two places would find it.

In that moment of sadness I did not think to go back to the cupcake shop.
When we visited I did not recall Kate playing with the blanket... she was busy with her balloon animal... I had thought the blanket was in my purse...

We headed home.  Sad.  Tired.  Frustrated.

When Eric arrived home Kate told him the news.  I was heart-broken for her.

(Kate does have other little blankets, sometimes she likes to carry several around with her, but purple blankie was her favorite.)

After Kate went to bed I decided to see if maybe the blanket was left behind at the cupcake shop.
It was the only other place I could think of.

So I sent the cupcake shop a Tweet asking if by chance they had found Kate's blanket.
I went to bed expecting to hear, "No, I am sorry."

The next morning I woke up to one of the best replies ever...
"Yes. We sure did."
I honestly jumped for joy and could not wait for Kate to wake up and tell her the good news!

Here is Kate's reaction when she heard the news:

Now that is one happy girl!

After swim lessons we headed back to Boulder to pick up her beloved purple blankie.

I don't think we could have gotten to Tee & Cakes fast enough.

Kate was thrilled to have purple blankie back in her arms!

I was thrilled we found it!
Of course we had to have another cupcake and a macaroon.
And while we enjoyed our goodies I made sure purple blankie was tucked away safely in my purse.

I am so thankful for Tee & Cakes and Twitter!  Without them we might have lost purple blankie forever.

There is a new rule about purple blankie...
It may still leave the house but it must stay in the car.

How purple blankie ended up lost at Tee & Cakes I am not 100% sure.
I do believe it was in my purse and fell out when I got out wipes to clean up Kate.
Oh the guilt I carry...

the view :: week 6

We love the local public library.
We try to visit at least every three weeks.
And on rainy, humid, hot, summer days it is the perfect place to be.

We check out books.

We play games on their fancy touch screen computer.

I search for favorite authors, favorite books, and try to find new favorites too.

This view is one that I hope will never get old.

fourth of july

This year for the Fourth of July Kate and I joined my dear friend and her family for a day of fun!
We watched a small mountain town's Independence Day parade (my friend's sons were in the parade!)

The parade was a lot of fun and full of random floats and people!

Kate was THRILLED to receive a kazoo from one of the floats!

Kate's loot!
There was not another child in sight and the floats were throwing handfuls of candy!
Kate was thrilled that she was able to pick up all the candy around her.
(We made sure to share our candy with our friends. :))

Post parade jump on the trampoline!
Kate and the boys spent the afternoon playing, swimming, and enjoying the fresh mountain air.
The adults chatted and truly enjoyed the relaxing afternoon!

In the evening we all headed into town to catch the firework show.  Kate fell asleep about three minutes into the drive.  She held on tight to her kazoo the whole car ride.
So precious!

The city shoots off fireworks right over the soccer fields.
The kids (and adults) enjoyed playing before it got dark.
My girlfriend bought the kiddos glow bracelets and they enjoyed finding different ways to wear them.
The firework show was AMAZING!

The day was fun, relaxing, amazing, perfect!

Thank you, Angie, for allowing us to celebrate Independence Day with you and your family!
