inspiration workshop {bedroom}

I am so excited for the return of Gussy Sew's Inspiration Workshop!  This month's theme is BEDROOMS.

I was thrilled when Gussy announced this month's theme. (And I might have let out a little Gussy yeow!) I am starting the process of re-doing our master bedroom this month.  My goals for our bedroom is to have an actually headboard/bed frame, furniture that goes together, carve out a space for my desk, and create a calm and relaxing room.

Our current bedroom is a mix-match of stuff and furniture, does not seem to always flow well, and is in much need of new curtains and bedding.  It has been this way for as long as I can remember and it deserves some much needed attention.  I am so excited to begin this process!

Here is my inspiration and vision for our bedroom...

I love this bed frame and dresser from Ikea.

I really like this desk area.  I hope to create something similar in a corner of the room.

I also want to create a little sitting area.  I am dreaming of relaxing in a comfy chair and reading for a few hours on end. :)

I have yet to really settle on a color pallet.  Currently I am thinking of white bedding and curtains.  I think that will look so nice with the dark wood of the furniture.  It will also allow me to create (and change) a pop of color with ease.  The only thing that makes me nervous about white is our dog... but that is what bleach is for, right?!?

I am also not sure what to do with the walls.  We have a large photograph from our wedding that I would like to hang in the room.  I am not sure if I should hang a lot on the walls, paint an accent wall, paint the whole room, have more pictures from our wedding printed and framed,  look for a large piece of artwork, and so on and so on.  I am keeping my eyes open for some inspiration and ideas in this area.

I am super excited to begin this process and see our bedroom transform into an amazing space.  I know it will be a calm, relaxing, space that we will look forward to retreating to at the end of the day.

What would your dream bedroom have?

a hay ride {family reunion style}

This past July Eric's family had a family reunion at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado.

It was an amazing time to spend with family, reconnect, meet new, dig deeper, and be reminded that family is at the core of all we do.

The days and nights were filled with laughter, fun, events, activities, games, and lots and lots of talking.

One of my favorite activities from the reunion was the hay ride we took at sunset.  We were pulled my two beautiful horses.  Our guides had a true passion for horses and the West.  A true cowboy and cowgirl.  We roasted marshmallows (which Kate really enjoyed) and saw an amazing sunset over the Rockies. It was truly an evening to remember.

reflect

When I first started reflecting on this past year I found myself looking at the negative.  I found myself thinking this year has not been any better.  The same struggles surface from time to time.  The same things tend to bring me down. No one arrived with a million dollars in their hands ready to give it away to us.

But I had to stop myself and dig a bit deeper.  When I sat back and looked I realized this year has been pretty amazing.

I have developed some deep meaningful relationships with a handful of amazing women.  I have maintained wonderful old friendships full of wisdom and love.  I have gotten to take three amazing vacations.  I saw the ocean for the first time in 20 or so years.  I celebrated another year of marriage.  I encouraged and cheered on my husband as he took a huge step in his career.  I watched my sweet toddler develop into a preschooler.  I took classes again.  I read some powerful, life-changing, books.  The ache for Riley has passed and when I do think of her I am flooded with happy memories.  I learned that family is the glue to life, they come first, and make life so interesting.

My life this year has been far from perfect.  I still struggle, we have debt, sometimes I place my focus and worth in the wrong place, I let the classroom stress and exhaust me beyond what I should, I yell...  But if I only place my focus on these things I will never see all the good and amazing things right in front of me.

2011 was an amazing year.  I am looking forward to seeing what 2012 will bring.
